After earning degrees in fashion design, longtime friends Michelle Chaplin and Emily Brandle explored the fashion world. Chaplin launched two of her own collections and then headed to New York to accept a job as a head designer, and Brandle explored several fashion angles as a tradeshow coordinator, showroom sales and press manager, and retail buyer. In 2006, the two combined their experience and creativity and launched Smoke & Mirrors.
